Places for the marathon are highly sought after, with entry for the 2015 race selling out in just two days after opening on the 1st of January. However, anyone who would like to take on the gruelling challenge can register with Tenovus Cancer Care or Awyr Las to secure their place, and raise money to help cancer patients and their loved ones in Wales. To secure a place in the marathon, the charities are asking for a minimum sponsorship of £300 with £100 of this paid one month before race day.
Tenovus Cancer Care brings treatment, emotional support and practical advice to where it matters most; the heart of the community. In previous years the Brooks Snowdonia Marathon Eryri has helped raise over for £30,000 for the charity.
Mhairi Wotherspoon, Running & Challenge Events Manager at Tenovus Cancer Care said:
“We are delighted to be selected as an official charity partner for the 2015 race for a third time. Being diagnosed with cancer is one of the most frightening and toughest challenges a person, along with their loved ones, could face. It’s really fitting and truly inspiring to see people taking on the one of the UK’s toughest and gruelling marathons to help provide support for cancer patients and their families throughout Wales”.
The Brooks Snowdonia Marathon Eryri will also support Awyr Las in their By Your Side Campaign.
Kirsty Thomson, Head of Fundraising at Awyr Las, the charity for better healthcare in North Wales said:
“We too are so grateful to everyone involved in the marathon for choosing to support Awyr Las. Last year Snowdonia runners raised over £3,000 for people on the Alaw Cancer Unit. The money raised this year will help fund much needed improvements which will be taking place on Alaw over the next year. We know these places can make a huge difference to the lives of people with cancer and their families in the region.”
