Race Coordinator Jayne Lloyd said:
“This race has been going on for over 30 years and is an important part of the local event calendar. The increased visitor numbers clearly bring their own financial benefits to local businesses and concerns but we are really glad to be able to support directly those parts of the community that are such a great support to us.
“Without the help of local groups like these, we simply couldn’t hold the race. Their friendly welcome and encouragement of or runners is famous throughout the running community and we are very proud of that”.
Money from this year’s event will help to fund a wide variety of projects from IT equipment for Ysgol Brynrefail, Llanberis Army Cadets and Ysgol Waunfawr to kitting out Llanberis FC with smart new tracksuits and helping to fund a trip for local Girl Guides who are going to India this summer to work in an orphanage. A major part of the donations will help to fund some of the vital environmental work in Snowdonia undertaken by The Snowdonia Society and the National Trust.
Llanberis Councillor Trefor Edwards was delighted with this year’s contributions saying:
“Marathon Eryri Cyf was established in 2007 to ensure that the community gained maximum benefit from this well established race. Events like this bring great financial benefits to local businesses but Marathon Eryri also ensures benefits to local communities, not only Llanberis but throughout this area of Gwynedd.”
Barry Davies of Clwb Antur Dyffryn Peris said:
”We are delighted that the Snowdon Marathon Committee has generously donated the sum of £500 towards two new Celtic Longboats that are soon to be available at the Club. The provision of these traditional boats will be a tremendous asset to the village and to the area. We hope that in 2015 members will be suitably experience in order to participate in Celtic Longboat rowing competitions. Without the generous contribution made available by Snowdon Marathon the Club would not have been able to release the payment for the two boats in time for delivery before Easter.”
This year’s Snowdonia Marathon Eryri will take place on October 25th. Race entries are already full, however if you would like to be involved as a volunteer, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org 07786223763
